Immersion Experience in Morocco

Imagine leaving home for a few months with nothing ahead of you but a new country, a new city, and the feeling that your usual routine has been put on hold. No familiar commute, no obligations waiting around every corner, no idea yet who you are going to meet. You arrive somewhere completely new, with time to discover it and to see what happens when you let yourself live differently for a while.

Our Immersive Programs

Our full immersion programs run all year, so you can come at the point that fits your studies back home. For longer programs, check the Plus option.

Every Program and Session includes tuition, materials, the cultural program, five hours a week of supervised study, assessment and a transcript.

Electives can be added to any semester or academic year, priced separately: content courses taught in Arabic (60 hours across a semester) and Area Study courses taught in English on Moroccan history, society and the region (24 hours each, one to one). See For Universities for credit detail.

The Academic Year runs the Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions consecutively. Students who prefer not to study over the holidays take the winter as an internship, a field study project or a volunteer placement instead; we arrange the placement agreement where the host organization needs one. Every student on a Semester, Semester+ or Academic Year package sits an official ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) with an independent external examiner, included in the package.

The cultural program

We run a weekly program of activities, announced at the start of the week and posted on the board at the institute. It brings Arabic into different settings through indoor activities such as cooking, calligraphy and discussion groups, as well as outdoor activities in Rabat such as museum visits, walks through the medina and kasbah, zellige workshops and karaoke.

We also organize trips beyond Rabat to Chefchaouen, Fes, Marrakech and Merzouga. Workshops and activities at the institute are included for everyone. Trips involving transport or entry fees are charged separately, and are included for semester and academic year students.

This is anything but decoration around the language course. Two hours of cooking in Arabic with a teacher and four other students is two hours of Arabic, and it is the kind that stays.

Getting placed

Before you arrive

You complete a written placement test covering grammar, vocabulary, and reading.

or

Around your arrival

A short spoken assessment completes the process, online beforehand or in person on your first day, depending on your arrival schedule.

You won't need to take the placement test if you're a complete beginner.

Your placement determines where you start. If the level is not the right fit once classes begin, we adjust it. Placement is an ongoing process, not a commitment to a level chosen before arrival.

Named sessions run to the dates above. Individual students start any Monday, subject to placement and space.
