Safe, Open, and Easy to Live In
For students coming to Morocco alone, and for parents sending their children abroad, safety is a legitimate concern. Rabat makes that part easier.
It is one of Morocco's safer cities, with a relaxed pace of life and a strong sense of everyday order. Students we spoke to, especially women traveling alone, consistently said they find the city easy to navigate and feel safe moving around it. Parents can have peace of mind knowing that their children are living and studying in a place where they can walk to class, go out for dinner, and get around without constantly having to worry about their surroundings.
What also shapes the experience in Rabat is its people. Locals are open-minded and respectful, which creates a reassuring atmosphere in daily life, with a strong sense of acceptance toward cultural differences.
And Rabat doesn't have the feeling of a city where you are constantly approached or pulled into interactions you didn't ask for. People have their own lives to get on with. You can walk through the medina, sit in a café, take the tram, or explore the neighborhoods at your own pace, simply enjoying the city without feeling interrupted at every step.
Of course, Rabat is still a major city, and ordinary common sense applies. But for many students, that balance is exactly what makes it such a good place to live, enough life and movement to immerse yourself, without the pressure and intensity that can make a new city exhausting.
Somewhere Between Here and Home
Rabat is easy to settle into. It has the rhythm of a place where people live their everyday lives: morning coffee, the walk to the market, a tram ride across town, an afternoon by the river, dinner with friends. Before long, these small routines become yours.
You don't just visit Rabat. You start to belong to its rhythm.
The city gives you room to wander without needing a plan. Get lost in the medina, stop for coffee, walk along the Bouregreg, watch the sunset from the Kasbah, or spend an afternoon by the ocean. There is always somewhere to go, but rarely any need to rush.
And somewhere along the way, the unfamiliar becomes ordinary. The café you return to. The shopkeeper who recognizes you. The street you no longer need a map to find.

Kasbah of the Udayas
Blue-and-white lanes overlooking the Bouregreg, where the river meets the ocean. Start at the great Almohad gate and wander from there.
Hassan Tower
The unfinished minaret of a mosque that was meant to be one of the largest in the medieval Muslim world. Come at sunset, when the sandstone turns gold.
Site of Chellah
A walled garden of Roman ruins, medieval walls, and storks nesting above ancient stone. One of Rabat's quietest places to explore.

Getting Around, Without the Hassle
Getting around Rabat is easy without a car, the tram connects the main areas, while petits taxis and ride-hailing apps like Yango and inDrive make shorter trips simple. During your first week, we'll show you how public transport and taxis work, including typical fares.
Our institute is a short walk from Rabat Ville train station, making weekend travel easy. Casablanca is less than an hour away by train, while Tangier, Fes, and Marrakech are all within reach for a weekend trip. You can study in Rabat during the week and spend your weekends discovering a completely different side of the country.

Weather you can plan a life around
Rabat's Atlantic climate keeps temperatures moderate throughout the year. Summers are typically around 27–28°C, with a sea breeze that makes the heat comfortable, while winters stay mild with occasional rain and little prolonged cold.
It's not dramatic weather. That's the point.
It rarely gets in the way of everyday life, whether you're studying, walking around the city, or simply settling into a routine for a few months.
